The Benefits Of Professional Hair Care

When it comes to hair - especially for women - anything goes in an effort to make us feel beautiful. And often this effort means the pursuit of professional hair care - that service that will keep our hair healthy and looking great. Of course, such service comes at a price - some higher than others - but most find that it is more than worth the expense. Can you cut your hair at home? Yes. Can you color your hair with the use of a product you picked up at your local drugstore? Absolutely. But what you save in avoiding professional hair care you will almost certainly wind up spending down the road to fix damage you have caused.

Professional services are simply part of our lifestyle - a necessary factor in keeping our bodies healthy. Just as we visit doctors for check-ups, dentists for professional cleaning, and ophthalmologists to make sure our glasses or contacts are up-to-date, so must we allow ourselves professional hair care to ensure the health of our hair.

Professional hair care typically requires a trip to a salon where your hair will be washed, conditioned, cut, and styled. Your stylist can assess the health of your hair and determine if you need a deep conditioning treatment and what cut will work best with your particular hair. Developing a long term relationship with a stylist allows you to know what you're getting when you walk in; it also allows the stylist to get to know your hair and subsequently learn what to look for in determining the health of your hair. Trimming the hair allows the hair to grow and keeps it healthy. If you do not trim your hair, the ends become split and your hair becomes dry, broken, and brittle.

When it comes to styling, professional hair care treatment gives you insight into what looks best for your hair and around your face. It is important to seek out a stylist who has experience working with your type of hair; if, for instance, you have naturally curly hair, you want to find someone who is skilled in dealing with your type of hair. A haircut for curly hair is very different than a haircut for straight hair. A little bit of research will go a long way towards ultimately getting what you want.

For those who color their hair, professional hair care is even more important. If done incorrectly, color can damage your hair long term. A professional hair colorist can expertly treat your hair and help you decide what color looks best on your hair and against your face.

Professional hair care may cost you some money; but it will be well worth it in maintaining the health and beauty of your hair.

Keeping Your Hair in the Best Condition Possible

Women love their hair. It's signifies their look, their style to showcase to the World. Your hair says a lot about you, and it's for this very reason that women often strive to keep their own hair in it's best possible condition throughout the year. There are a lot of factors to take into consideration when trying to keep your hair healthy, and we'll talk about each of those factors below in a short snapshot to help those struggling with their own bad hair days to avoid them in the future.

Saving a little, can cost a lot in the future

Oftentimes, women will take shortcuts with their hair to save a little money in the short term. The worst offender many women fall prey to is coloring their own hair. In fact, corrective hair coloring is a popular hair salon service offered for this very reason. You know that aisle in the supermarket full of beautifully colored boxes that lure unsuspecting women to purchase and use these cheaply made hair coloring dyes and products. Don't do it!

Hair coloring is best left to professionals at the salon. Those who attempt to color their hair at home often leave it on for too long, resulting in damaged hair follicles and damaging the ends of their hair. Another reason for not coloring your own hair includes choosing the wrong color for your skin tone, thus leaving yourself with a less than desirable outcome. When any of the above happens to your hair, you simply end up spending more than you would if you had just scheduled an appointment with your local hair salon.

The other cost-saving measure that many women make is by purchasing shampoos not worthy of keeping their hair in the best shape possible. The best types of shampoo that you can use on your hair are organic. They possess everything your hair needs, without all the unnecessary chemicals that may or may not potentially introduce carcinogens in your body over time. Over the years, the trend in organic and natural based products has risen dramatically as people realize the benefits of choosing only natural ingredients versus man-made chemicals. When it comes to shampoo, spend high and save in the long run.

So you shower everyday right?

Well, showering isn't always the best thing for your hair. In fact, it's recommended that you do not wash your hair on a daily basis. Washing your hair strips the natural oils in your hair that protect and nourish growth. It is said that the day after washing your hair is when it typically look's its' best. If you must shower everyday consider purchasing a shower cap. They work well to hold the hair out of the water, and you can still wash the rest of your body without getting your hair wet.

If you're going to keep your hair in it's best shape, be sure to take note of the above recommendations. Saving money in the short run may end up costing your hair over time. Always have your hair colored by a professional, and don't attempt to do it on your own unless you absolutely have to. Pay attention to the labels on your shampoo, and if possible, try and shop for natural/organic hair products versus the cheaper chemical induced shampoos commonly sold on store shelves. You'll eventually notice a difference in the way your hair looks, and the compliments are sure to come shortly after. Good luck!

If you're looking to keep your hair in the best possible shape, you need to shop at Aubrey Organics. Aubrey products are 100% natural and safe for your hair, skin and body. With a complete line of shampoos, I recommend shopping at Aubrey for your hair product needs.

Hot New Highlights For Your Hair This Winter

As the weather turns colder and the days become shorter many of us look for a bit of pampering to lift our spirits during the colder months and one of the great ways to treat yourself is to have your hair done. Winter fashions tend to be darker in colour and we lose our sunkissed colour from our skin so the best way to give us a lift and remind us of the summer is by adding highlights to our hair.

Highlights not only lift the tone of your hair but also add warmth to your face right at the time when you most need it. As the name indicates highlights are lightened or coloured sections of hair and can be as little as one or two shades lighter right through to a complete contrast. They can also be subtle with smaller sections of hair lightened or more evident with chunkier sections using various application methods such as foils where the hair is sectioned off and kept separate after the application of the colour by encasing it in foil, hair painting where the colour is, as the name suggests, painted onto the hair giving it a natural look, frosting where only the tips of the hair have bleach applied, and chunking where large chunks of hair are coloured, this can not only be highlights but also chunks of non-natural hair colours such as pink and blue.

Highlights can also be more than one colour, your hairdresser may choose to use several different tones to really add some vibrancy to your style. One of the current highlight styles is known as ombre where, particularly longer hair, is lightened to a very contrasting colour at the ends and then blended to a much darker colour at the roots.

Whilst highlights are generally a lightening of your natural colour you can also add other tones to add some vibrancy to the natural colour. Copper is a particularly popular colour as it suits many hair and skin tones and adds a lot of warmth to darker hair and shines when the light hits it.

Your hairdresser will be able to offer some great suggestions about what highlights will suit your hair colour, your skin tone, and your personality. Highlights are suitable for all hair styles from the very short to the extremely long and they can be subtle or have major impact. Highlights really can give your whole look a lift especially during the rather dull winter months.

5 Hair Care Tips for Making Every Day a Good Healthy Hair Day

What's the key to healthy hair? Under all those gorgeous tresses there's skin that needs TLC. A healthy scalp is foundational to maintaining beautiful, healthy hair. Your hair follicles are fed and nourished by the blood and tissues of the scalp. Keep your scalp happy and healthy by following these five tips:

1. Add Nutrients

Just like your body, your hair and scalp need nutrients and thrive when fed good things. Vitamin E in hair products can help improve scalp circulation and stimulate hair growth. Olive oil is one of the top ingredients to seek out in your hair care products. It's very hydrating to the hair and rich in beta-carotene, fatty acids and antioxidants. It softens and moisturizes the scalp and helps to create the optimal conditions for hair growth.

2. Avoid Irritants

Any ingredient that has a drying effect on your skin will have an even worse effect on your scalp. Fatty alcohols like stearyl, myristyl and cetyl are moisturizing; other types of alcohol are drying, such as denatured alcohol, propanol, ethanol and isopropyl. Be sure to check the list of ingredients in the hair products you buy and avoid the ones with the drying alcohols. Salicylic acid can be found in products that treat flaking scalps, but these products should be used sparingly -- no more than once per week. Menthol is another ingredient to use in moderation; while it can have a cooling, refreshing and invigorating effect (like peppermint), it can also cause itching in sensitive scalps.

3. A Quality Brush

Choose a brush made of soft plastic, as it is gentler on hair than harsh boar bristles or more rigid natural bristles. Find a brush with ball-tipped bristles for a smoother effect on the hair and brush lightly. Vented brushes allow for a more even dispersion of heat and smoother brushing while blow-drying. Hair dries more quickly without burning of your hair or scalp. The gentlest option of all? A wide-toothed comb.

4. Massage

Regular scalp massages help promote circulation, which stimulates hair follicles to grow thicker and more lustrous hair. After applying shampoo, take time to gently massage your scalp with your fingertips for 30 seconds to a minute. You can also do a prewash massage with nurturing oils such as grapeseed oil, an antioxidant-rich argan oil or a soothing naturally antibacterial lavender oil. Work just a few drops of the oil into your scalp and slowly massage for a minute or two.

5. Sun Protection

Just as the rest of your skin requires protection from the sun, so does your scalp. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can burn your scalp, dehydrate it and lead to itching. Repeated sun exposure will dry out your hair and make it brittle. The sun has an aging effect on hair just as it does the skin and can result in a coarse, dry texture. Take precautions to wear a light-colored hat or scarf if you know you'll be out in direct sun.

5 Tips to Prolong the Life of Your Hair Extensions

You Get What You Pay For

Honestly, we've all heard the phrase before: "You get what you pay for." Well, hair extensions are no exception. The higher quality the hair, the longer your hair will look luscious, beautiful, and full. Choosing the right stylist is also very important. Many hair stylists know different techniques and have different strengths when it comes to installing the hair. Make sure the one you choose knows how to work with your hair texture, the hair extensions, and the method you want to install them with. If you decide to color your hair, make sure to work with the same stylist who will ensure that your hair matches the hair extensions.

Avoid Products With Alcohol

Alcohol dries out your hair! Many of the drug store and beauty supply store brand shampoos, conditioners, and styling aids come with alcohol on the label. Be very wary of any product labels mentioning ethanol alcohols. There are a few alcohols that will actually condition your hair instead of drying it out, such as cetyl alcohol or benenyl alcohol. Usually derived from a coconut or a palm tree, these types of alcohols are usually in a sold, thicker form. All in all, be very careful of what products you're putting into your hair extensions.

Treat Your New Hair Like It's Your Own

Don't be afraid to give your hair a conditioning treatment or style the hair extensions with the same care you'd use on your own hair. Air-dry as often as possible and use low heat when styling to avoid heat damage. Brush your locks at night before bed and in the morning before and after showering.

Satin Is Your Friend

Whether it's a satin pillow or a satin cap, you need one for sleeping in a night. During the night, our sleep movements against other materials like cotton cause friction that damages the hair creating tangles. Avoid this by wrapping your hair up in a satin cap or choosing to use a satin pillow case. If you're want to be extra cautious, use both! The plus side is you'll feel like royalty as you sleep on satin.

Professional Maintenance & Upkeep

Seek a professional hair stylist who will not only install the hair extensions for you but also maintain them during the life of your new hair. The kind of hair extensions you choose will depend on what kind of maintenance you need but overall, you should seek professional help in order to get the maximum life out of your hair extensions.

So those are our ways of keeping your the modern marvel of your hair extensions in it's ultra fabulous condition. Have any more friendly tips? Leave a comment below and share your knowledge!

Tips for Choosing a New Hair Stylist

These days, it's harder to find the perfect hair stylist than it is to find the perfect partner. Placing the future of your hair into a stranger's hands is a hard thing to do but it almost seems like every time I find the right stylist, the one who knows exactly what I want, either retire or relocate. I know I can't be the only one who has this ongoing problem so here are a few tips on how to choose a new hair stylist.

Word of Mouth

The best way to find a new hair stylist, in my opinion, is by word of mouth. If you have a friend whose haircut or style you admire, ask them where they got it done. Ask your family members or the people you work with who they like to visit for their hair, and why. The next time you're waiting for a bus and you see someone with a great cut, ask them for pointers. These days everyone carries business cards and I'm sure you'll come across many. If someone is excited about something as fantastic as their appearance they will want to share it with you, even if you're a total stranger.

Social Media

Two words: Google it! If you've heard about a salon or think you might be interested in seeing your neighbor's stylist, look it up on the Internet. That's what it's there for, after all. Read reviews of their site and services on sites like Yelp. See what your friends have to say about any particular hair stylist on Twitter or Facebook. The Internet is a world of knowledge just waiting to be tapped into and serves to help people like us make the best decision based on other people's good and bad experiences.

Visit the Salon

Finally, if you're uncomfortable taking other people's word for it, check the salon out yourself. Schedule a consultation with the stylist you're thinking about trusting with the future of your hair and sit down with them for a minute to discuss what you want and what they think will suit you best. Bring in pictures of models or celebrities whose style you admire so you can show a visual of how you imagine yourself looking once the makeover is complete. If the stylist doesn't have the time to meet with you and take to slow, don't use their services. We can get very attached to our hair and if that person doesn't understand you then they're not worth your time.

Finding a new hair stylist takes time and preparation if you're going to do it right. You can't trust just anyone with knowing exactly what you want as a hair style but through word of mouth, social media, and in-person visits you are sure to find the right hair stylist for you. And with a little bit of luck, maybe you'll be able to convince them to stick around so you won't have to go through all the work of find that perfect stylist all over again!

Frizzy Hair: 7 Ways to Deal With It

Nothing beats the unmanageable, dry, and frizzy crowning glory. The best ways to deal with it are: knowing what's causing it, and prevent it from happening. Frizz happens because of lack of moisture. The outer layer of the hair is rough making it look dull and frizzy. Here are some basic things you should consider to prevent hair from frizzing.

1. Use hair conditioner - The smoothness and silkiness of hair depends on its layers. With a good conditioner, the hair strands are left with protective smooth cover and shiny oils that make it shine.

2. Block moisture - Pat dry your hair with a dryer but be sure to use low heat before combing. Moisture blocks leave 10-15% external moisture. For big curls, use a wide tooth comb for wet hair and removing tangles. The wide tooth helps to prevent hair fall as well. For twisted locks, use a microfiber towel, then apply the moisture block. Do not twist the twist marks. Run the moisture block with your hands while massaging the scalp. For ironed straightened hair, apply the moisture block as topical coating after ironing.

3. Get a scalp friendly hair-cut - Simply put, do not go for styles that are too difficult to maintain. Improper way of maintenance often causes dry and unmanageable hair.

4. Use Leave-in Conditioner - Aside from having a fresh smelling hair, leave-ins also protect the hair from dust, sweat, and dirt. Inability to clean up these things causes dandruff and dry scalp. Dry scalp starts the dryness of the hair.

5. Have a regular hair treatment - Weekly hot oil treatment and regular deep conditioning help tame frizz.

6. Avoid staying under the sun for long periods. As previously mentioned, dryness causes the frizz as it dries up the hair cuticle. Ultra-violent rays from the sun are highly damaging to skin. Note that our scalp is one big skin covered with hair. Hair being the skin protector, they easily get the damage before the scalp does.

7. Refrain from too much blow drying - Use of dryer is not bad so long as it is controlled. It is still recommended to air dry your hair but if in case use of hair dryer is not avoidable, maintain the level of heat to something tolerable to the scalp. Low to moderate levels and only around ten minutes or less.

These are just few of the many ways of protecting your hair from frizzing without spending too much for expensive products. Taking care of your hair doesn't need to be expensive.

5 Questions You Must Ask Your Hair Stylist

So you managed to finally find a hair stylist that you like. He or she knows not only your hair type and preferences, but probably your favorite drink, your opinion on Tom and Katie, and that your co-worker is cheating on her husband. It may seem impossible, but you can further improve the relationship with your stylist, as well the quality of your hair, by asking just a few simple questions.

1. How should I maintain my hair at home and which products should I use?

After cutting your hair the first time, your stylist has a pretty good idea of your hair texture and tendencies. If you have gone over pictures together, he or she knows the desired outcome of your hair. With this in mind, your stylist will be able to tell you how to get the look at home and which products to use. Most times, the products are sold directly at the salon or you can even browse online for a discount.

2. I'd like to go for a new look. Which cut do you think would suit me?

A stylist can become bored with creating your hair style, just as much as you can become bored looking at it, especially if you have been going to the same one for a long time. Discuss this issue in a diplomatic way, explaining that you'd like a new look and are seeking their counsel. Talk to your stylist about what image you'd like to convey and it always helps to bring pictures for clarity.

3. How can I change my look without changing the cut?

Variety is the spice of life and hair is no exception! You may love your salon look because it gives off a professional feel perfect for the office. But how about those Friday nights when you fee like vamping it up? Ask your stylist to introduce you to the multiple facets of your cut. If he or she did the job right, you should be left with hair that's versatile enough to pull off a few styles within the same cut.

4. When is your least busy time for an appointment? What time is your first available appointment?

As you can imagine stylists get very busy, so it is important to be considerate and schedule your appointment in advance. If you would like a consultation in addition to a hair cut, also mention this. Like everyone else, stylists get tired. It is helpful to come in on their least busy day or to be one of their first appointments.

5. Could you put some of the hair dye you used in my shampoo to keep my color lasting longer?

No matter how much you love your colorists, you don't want to see them often for touch-ups. A little known secret is to add some of the dye used on your hair to a daily shampoo. This will keep your color lasting longer until your next appointment. A few drops is all you need and most stylists do not have a problem doing this, especially if your purchase a shampoo from the salon.

Healthy Hair Habits: Deep Conditioners

The use of deep conditioners should be a part of any healthy hair care regimen. You may ask: Why are they so important? It's hard to imagine that anyone would wash their hair without using a rinse out conditioner, unless the shampoo had a conditioner in it. With all the stress that we place on our hair, it's even harder to imagine not using a deep conditioner from time to time.

Before you ask yourself the following questions, you need to know why it's important to deep condition your hair. First, a good deep conditioner will hydrate dry hair by penetrating the hair shaft to restore moisture and to prevent breakage. Second, it can help to alleviate the daily damage we inflict upon our hair by the use of excessive heat and chemical treatments, etc. Third, they are treatments and usually are required to remain in the hair for 15-30 minutes.

Asking yourself the following questions about deep conditioners will guide you in the right direction.

1. How often should I deep condition my hair?

Opinions vary on how often you should deep condition your hair. A good rule of thumb to use is to determine how often you use heat, what elements your hair is exposed to on a regular basis, product use, and hair type. Some suggest once a month is sufficient even with dry, damaged hair. Others suggest at least twice a month. According to the literature that is out there, it's not really necessary to deep condition more than a couple of times a month.

(Note: For the best results, use a heating cap or sit under a hooded dryer with a plastic baggy. This helps to open the cuticle layer and penetrate the hair shaft.)

2. What type of deep conditioner is best for my hair type?

There are different types of deep conditioners for different hair types. There are those that are infused with essential oils and herbs, others with keratin proteins, silk and wheat proteins. You should determine right away if your hair needs a moisture-based conditioner or a protein-based conditioner. Different sources suggest that if your hair is dry and it snaps and breaks easily, you should use a moisturizing conditioner. If your hair is fine, and stretches then snaps, a conditioner with protein should be used.

(Note: Some people go with plant-based proteins opposed to animal-based proteins. More research is needed in order to determine which protein-based conditioners are best. It's possible that it's a matter of preference, but surely some will argue that one is better than the other and can provide justification for their claims.)

3. Can I use a regular rinse out conditioner as a deep conditioning treatment?

Some sources say that it's OK to use a regular rinse out conditioner as a deep conditioning treatment. This is the point where you will have to be investigators and read the ingredients list to distinguish which ingredients are similar and which are different in rinse outs and deep conditioners. Some say that rinse out conditioners only coat the top layer of the hair strand and doesn't contain ingredients that penetrate the hair shaft. Typically a conditioner that is for deep conditioning will let you know.

Tips For Getting The Best Hair Color

Every now and then we like to change the way our hair looks. We generally do this by getting haircuts or changing the hair color. These approaches to changing our looks can either subtly enhance what we already have, or they can completely make us look like a different person.

Before you decide to go into the salon for haircuts or hair color you have to decide what you want the color change to do for you.

1. If you want your hair color to cover the grey that is starting to appear in your hair then you want to keep the shade of color as close to your natural color as possible. This way people will not really know if you color your hair or not. It will look natural on you.

2. If you want to change your color, but still remain looking natural you want to keep the dyes you choose in the same family as your natural hair color. If you are a natural blonde try going a shade or two lighter, or darker than normal. This will give you a change without making you look drastically changed.

3. If you want to go for a whole new you then choose a color that you think is awesome. Today people are even going with vibrant yellows, reds, purple, greens, and blues. Make certain that your job will allow you to have these vibrant colors before you spend the money to get them put into your hair. Some businesses do not allow what they consider to be unnatural colors in their workers hair.

4. If you have a fair complexion then dying your hair a dark color will make your complexion look even paler. Sometimes the dark colors can even make you appear washed out if you go too dark.

5. If you have a dark complexion the lighter colors can either enhance your dark skinned good looks, or they can make you look like a person that suffers from jaundice. Dark skinned people, who have brown eyes, have to be very careful when lightening their hair to keep from making themselves look ill.

6. If you have red hair it is going to show through whatever color you place on top of it. The only way to get rid of the reddish hues in red hair is to completely strip the hair to white and then apply color to it. This is very harsh on the hair, but otherwise two weeks after coloring your hair the red will be showing.

7. The best way to choose the right haircuts and the right colors to put on your hair is to talk to your stylist. They know the strengths of your hair and they know the weaknesses of the hair as well. They can make recommendations according to what you want and yet still keep your tresses healthy after the change. Do remember that the difference between a really bad hairstyle and a really good one is usually about two weeks.

Hiarcuts and hair color are two of the things we use when we want to change how we look, or how we feel about ourselves. You can get more information from hair color in Irvine.

Hair Color - Beauty Is Not in a Box

We have all seen the commercials advertising at home hair color products and the aisles and aisles of boxed hair color at the local drugstore or supermarket. The application looks so easy and the price cannot be beat, right? What many people do not realize is that the negatives of box color heavily outweigh the positives.

Many hair color companies do not only produce box color, they also produce professional hair color that salons use on clients. So what is the difference? Many color companies have different grades of ingredients that they use. The lower grade products are generally what you find in the hair color aisle. They use cheaper ingredients to lower their cost to make a higher profit. They then sell the better hair color to the licensed professionals that are experts in their field. There is a very good reason why the color that is on the shelves is not what the professionals put on your hair.

As a hairstylist, many of the new clients that I see come into my salon with hair that is dry with a lot of frizz have been coloring their own hair. I see many heads of hair every week and the texture that box color creates is unappealing. The hair has no shine and the moisture was stripped from the hair. The cuticle of the hair was raised and feels like straw. Most people who use box color are not using professional styling products either, and if they are, they are doing more damage with the box color then if they did not use any products at all.

Applying box color to the hair is no easy task. Although the instructions are detailed, it is difficult for people to apply the color to their own hair. This results in spots caused by uneven application, overlapping hair color (which is very damaging), and a messy bathroom. This can all be avoided if you visit a professional or if you can convince a family member to apply your color.

When you walk down the hair color aisle and you see the hundreds of boxes with all different colors on the box, how do you know which color to pick? Most people grab the box that has the most appealing color on the front and decide that one would be the best color for their hair. But is it? The answer is most likely no. We have all heard the color nightmare stories people have told of: "My hair turned green!" or "It was way darker than the picture!" When clients sit down in a hairstylist's chair, there are many factors that the stylist takes into consideration when choosing what color to apply to the clients hair. Some of these factors include percentage of gray, integrity of the hair, the client's skin tone and eye color, how often they are in the sun, their lifestyle, natural hair color, and existing hair color (which is not always the same as natural hair color), as well as many other questions that are discussed in a consultation. Professional cosmetologists spend their whole career trying to perfect the color process. When they go to mix the client's color they do not use one color and put it all over the head. Even when they are going for a solid color look, they mix multiple colors together and sometimes even use one color at the root and another color through the ends. So when a shopper is looking for their next hair color in the beauty section, they are buying one solid color and many times it is not the right color for them.

Another reason the finished look from box color is not very attractive is how opaque the color is. Most products on the shelf are permanent and that sounds appealing because no one wants their color to fade but it is not ideal. Pulling a permanent color from scalp to ends tends to make the hair look matte and muddy with little or no shine. Most ends are porous and when a permanent color is put on the ends it soaks it up and has the potential to be darker than at the roots. Not to mention, one solid color with no shine or dimension looks very unnatural. Also, all the color box that claims that it is "semi permanent," quite possibly is not. Even if it states that it will rinse out after 20 shampoos, most of the time it leaves a line of demarcation, which is a permanent altercation of the hair. The advertising can be deceiving.

"What if I don't like the color that I got from the box?" With all of the previously mentioned factors, most people end up not being happy with the color they received from the box. If that color turns a bad color, ends up too dark, or unattractive, the person has few options in the beauty aisle to fix it, and if there were many options, many people wouldn't know which option to choose. At that point, the person with the bad color needs to go see a professional at a salon. Most stylists would call that service a color correction and that price could be very expensive, can be very difficult and take hours, or even multiple appointments.

Next time you see a celebrity endorsing a color that you are able to purchase at the drugstore, remember that they have personal hairdressers that probably would not let that color touch their hair. The celebrity's hair always looks beautiful and shiny. This is not achieved by boxed color. If you truly want multi-dimensional, gorgeous color, call a professional. Your hair will thank you.

The Benefits of Getting Your Hair Done by a Hair Salon

With the current state of the economy, many women are looking to save money wherever they can. This often means clipping coupons for their favorite grocery products, learning to change their own tires, and carpooling for work and school. However, one thing that women should not try to cut corners with is their haircare.

Here are 4 great reasons to get your hair done at a professional hair salon:

1. Professional hair stylists know what products to use to make your hair look its best. Many women have damaged their hair by using the wrong kinds of color, relaxers and other products. Others may have split ends, or damage from heating their hair with blow dryers and curling irons. A hairdresser may have products on hand that will help to repair this damage, as well as to help protect your hair from future mishaps.

2. A professional hair stylist can help you find a look that works for your facial type and personality. Let's face it, the style that you wore in high school tends to get a little old once you hit thirty. Also, while Halle Berry may be able to pull off the latest short style, if your face is square it may not look as fabulous. A hair dresser will be able to find a style that matches your face and personality while keeping you abreast of the newest styles and helping to keep your look from becoming dated.

3. Your look is almost as important as your resume. When it comes to landing a great job or moving up in the company that you are already a part of, looking the part goes a long way towards letting potential employers know that you are prepared for success. Getting your hair done professionally shows that you care about details like your appearance enough to not cut corners by doing things yourself that can be done better by someone else.

4. Getting your hair done at a hair salon helps you save time. Many women shave about 30 minutes to an hour off of their daily prep time when getting ready for work just by having a style that is low maintenance and that can last at least a week between sessions.

As they say, the hair is a woman's crowning glory. Mess with anything else, but not the hair. Do not take chances and get your hair done at a professional hair salon.

David Douglas Hair Salon Provo professional stylists have the talent and skill it takes to find the style that is perfect for you and to execute cutting-edge styling techniques to help you achieve that look.

Professional Hair Salon Stylists and Services

Salon services are there for everyone. No matter what look you are trying to achieve, a professional hair salon can help you reach your goals. They have full lines of color products matched with years of experience in hair color and highlights. By either making an appointment or walking in, anyone can enjoy professional hair services.

Books are always available at salons to help guide consultations. Bringing any pictures along of the color you want or cut and style you want is always recommended. Using books and pictures to help show what look you want is a great way for the stylists to know exactly what you want. Communication is key and professional hair salons are trained to achieve the look that the customer desires. Of course, their professional view is always available if you want advice on which color or cut would be best for your unique skin tone and features. They are skilled with different cuts for all different lengths of hair. From men's cuts to bobs and long layers, stylists know how to compliment a jaw line and face shape best.

The real technique of the professionals is in their performance. Beyond being able to cut a variety of styles and lengths, they also have to know how to mix colors, highlights, toners and more. Knowing what solutions to mix to get the perfect color and shade is a learned process that continues to grow with experience. Being able to take dark colors to blonde without damaging the hair can be done by a professional hair salon. With your desired look and the condition of your hair in mind, they can safely decide how to take your hair where you want it to go.

At the salon you can also have treatments done to your hair. Conditioning treatments and masks can help strengthen your hair and restore its shine. This is great for those that use color, highlights, or use frequent heat when styling. Treatments and deep conditioners are also great for those that are trying to grow out their hair because they can help restore brittleness and prevent split ends.

Going to a professional salon is always recommended. Cutting, styling, coloring, and color mixing is difficult to do correctly if you are not a trained stylist. Not only are they educated in the craft but they have the experience to help any male or female that sits in their salon chair.

What to Look For When Finding a New Hair Salon

So you are looking for a new hair salon. Maybe you just moved to a new town, city, or even state. Maybe your usual hair stylist quit or left the country. Or, maybe, you are just trying to find something new in your life. No matter what the reason, finding a new salon can be a big undertaking.

Your new salon needs to be a perfect match for you, your style, and your budget. You trust these people with your hair, so they need to be completely, 100% on the same page as you when it comes to safety, cleanliness, style, technique, price, and even personality.

How can you tell from just a first impression whether or not a salon is for you? With so many hair salons to choose from, it can be overwhelming to dig through all the promotions, consultations, and compliments to find the perfect hair salon.

5 Things to Keep in Mind

Here is a list of things to look for when you are finding a new hair salon. This list will help you weed out the duds quickly and efficiently.

Location - The location of a salon says a lot about it. Is it in a clean, safe neighborhood? Is it close to your home or place of work? Is there parking or public transportation nearby? If you are going to commit to a hair salon and a stylist, you need to be able to commit to their location.

Salon Appearance - It's OK to judge a book by its cover when it comes to hair salons. Your salon needs to have personality and style, but it also needs to be clean and well-kept. How can you expect to be taken care of at a salon if they can't even sweep the hair off the floor or wash the capes? Also, a messy salon might mean a salon filled with unhealthy bacteria and germs.

Customer Reviews - With websites like Yelp and Angie's List, it has never been easier to access reviews of a hair salon. Always check out any customer reviews to see if there are any major, negative trends. Also, ask around to your coworkers, friends, and family to see what they have heard about the salon.

Staff Appearance and Personality - The staff, including the receptionists and assistants, say a lot about a salon. Are they pleasant? Welcoming? Do they anticipate your needs? If so, that salon is a keeper. Also, take a look at the staff's appearance. Its great if their general style is in line with yours because that means that they can work with what you are comfortable with.

Product Pushing - It can be a big hint that a hair salon is only in it for the money if they are very pushy when it comes to selling products. However, if a stylist is actually using the product she is trying to sell, it means that she knows what she's talking about.

Keep this list of things in mind when you go out looking for a new hair salon, and you are sure to find a great fit!

Making Your Hair Color Last Longer

We spend a lot of money making sure we look our best. For some of us, the color of your hair is one of those things that just have to get budgeted. Whether you need a pick me up, a new look, or just need to cover some grey, hair color by a professional stylist can be expensive (well worth it though!). In order to make your color last as long as possible, there are a few tips and tricks you can follow.

1. Don't shampoo - Avoid shampooing your hair at least 24 hours before visiting the salon. The natural oils from your scalp can actually make the hair color last longer.

2. Deep condition - A few days before visiting the salon for your new color, apply a deep conditioning treatment so your hair is in the best shape possible to hold on to the new color treatment.

3. Avoid chlorine - Swimming is fantastic fun especially when there's a hot sun, a BBQ and a nice inviting pool. But the damage that chlorine can do to your hair, not to mention too much sun exposure, might make you think twice. Aside from the damage aspect, it will also make your color fade faster.

4. Condition regularly - After your hair color, be sure to condition regularly as hair color can dry out your hair. Healthy hair will hold the color longer.

5. Avoid daily washing of hair - I know, I know... most of us feel that we have to wash our hair every day, but it's not really necessary and can make your color fade faster. If you have oily hair and feel that you must shampoo, then use a dry shampoo.

6. Use shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair - There are special formulas of shampoo and conditioner that are made specifically to make your hair color last longer, and they really work! Ask your stylist which would be the best for you.

7. Avoid alcohol - No, I'm not saying you can't drink-that's up to you. But you do want to avoid any styling products that have alcohol as one of the top five ingredients. Not only is this very bad for your hair, but it can cause your color to fade faster. If you're already purchasing products from your hair salon, then you have no worries, but if not, be sure to check the ingredients before you buy.

There's no replacement for professionally applied hair color, but we can make our color last a little longer with some special care. Happy coloring!

Salon 8410 is the best hair coloring boutique in St. Petersburg, Florida. Find out more about how you can keep your hair color lasting longer by visiting Salon 8410 today.

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting Pastel Hair Color

Rainbow reigns supreme! When it comes to this season's hottest trend, everyone's flocking to bright pastels as their Spring hair colors of choice.

Aren't visions of Jem and the Holograms and Rainbow Brite running through your head? Katy Perry and Kristen Stewart have sported green and orange, respectively, while Nicole Richie settled on a cool shade of lavender.

Nicole's colorist, Daniel Moon of Andy Lecompte Salon, discussed with me what it was like getting the last-minute text to color her hair, which was inspired by a photo that was altered by social media. (Something I had a little fun with too!) Plus, he explains the four-step process of going bold with your color — including the essential product you need to maintain your color at home.

Getting Rid of the Grey With Professional Hair Coloring

Getting old stinks-well, it's true. Let's just be honest. So many things stop working and start going wrong. It begins with squinting when you try to read fine print, then finally breaking down and buying those over the counter reading glasses from your local drug store. Next thing you know you're tweezing a few gray hairs out of your eyebrow, and then you notice the ones on your head. The first time can be shocking and devastating, but in actuality, getting grey doesn't mean you're getting old. Some people go grey in their twenties. But everyone goes grey eventually.

Men sometimes try to hide grey hair (or the fact that they're balding) by shaving their heads, but that doesn't really seem to be an option for us women. Back to the drug store, yet again, this time to pick up a box of color that promises to hide those pesky greys, but it never really does, does it? Often it only achieves in covering some of them while others are still there... mocking us. On top of that, our natural color is now some weird hue of ash green.

Well, ladies, the truth is that you might get lucky once in a blue moon but to get professional results you really need a professional. Imagine that! By now, of course, you hit the salon with a mess that your stylist is going to need to fix with some corrective hair coloring. Basically that just means they might have to strip the color mess you applied to your hair in order to apply new color that won't make you look like the Algae Queen. When you need coloring, it's important to visit a professional for the best in coloring.

Corrective hair color is usually a bit more expensive than a regular hair color (covering gray hair or not) because it's a two to three step process, but it's necessary to fix your, well, your oops. It can be much more affordable to just go to a professional in the first place, but yes, some of us like to try to save money here and there. Trust me ladies, a good stylist can fix things with some corrective color but you really need to leave the boxes at the store in the first place. Getting a professional to color your hair right the first time will be less costly, less time consuming and give you complete coverage of that stubborn grey you've been trying to avoid for years.

Tara Uhrinek is the owner of Salon 8410 in St. Petersburg, Florida. If you need to hide your grey hairs, you won't find a better hair coloring salon in St. Pete.

Weddings can be downright stressful. Haven't you seen Steel Magnolias? My Best Friend's Wedding? (Side note: Julia Roberts fancies her some wedding movies, doesn't she?) So the last thing you want to worry about is whether or not your desired hairstyle works with the type of veil you want to wear or vice versa.

Paul Perez, stylist at Sally Hershberger Salon in Los Angeles, specializes in wedding hairstyles and gave us a few inspirational looks depending on the type of veil you pick: the birdcage, the cathedral, and the midlength veil. (Three of the most popular designs!) So which one works best with a top knot? And if you have short hair, can you even pull off an updo? These tutorials will answer all of your wedding hair woes.
