Should I Wear Bangs?

One of the most frequently asked questions when I do a consultation. It isn't as simple as yes or no. The fringe, as it is much more elegantly named in other countries, is designed to work with the rest of the cut to create a flattering look.
That said here are a few points that might help you decide.
Bangs are more youthful than no bangs.
  • Bangs can reshape your face adding to or detracting from it.
  • Full blunt bangs will shorten and widen your face.
  • Bangs do not work well on those with a strong cowlick or split at their hairline. At least not without considerable effort and hairspray.
  • Soft, wispy bangs are generally the most flattering, thus the most common.
  • A low forehead hairline is generally best with very short bangs or very long and off the face.
  • An extremely high forehead is generally best with longer bangs.
  • A broad/wide forehead is usually best with bangs that are concave (longer on the sides than in the middle).
  • Asymmetrical or diagonally cut bangs are slenderizing.
Bang Trauma
We've all experienced it. B.T. Someone cut your bangs too short, probably your mother, possibly you, and there you were feeling naked to the world, pulling on your bangs to encourage rapid re-growth. Bang pulling is like pushing the elevator button to get the door to close. It doesn't do any good, but you still do it just in case.
Bang trauma is completely understandable. Bangs are the key face framer of the haircut. How they fall makes a huge difference in how you look. Bangs draw attention to or away from certain facial proportions. They can affect your face shape immensely. That being said, I don't understand how people without skill feel compelled to cut their own bangs, but it happens regularly.
Though generally best left to the professionals, there may come a time when you just didn't plan ahead. Here is my advice for those moments of madness when you JUST CAN'T STAND it any more and attack your bangs with your cuticle clipper.
Clues to Cutting Your Own Bangs
  • Don't cut your bangs when they are wet. Completely dry and style your hair as usual.
  • Shake your head and allow the fringe to fall naturally.
  • Don't raise your eyebrows! Relax your forehead, look straight ahead into the mirror, and with the point of the shear, trim just the straggles that are too long for you.
  • DO NOT CUT HORIZONTALLY unless you're going for Dutch Boy.
  • With a comb, lift the bangs 90 degrees from the forehead and with the tip of the shear very gently snip into the very ends to soften.

Reasons Why You Should Get Hair Extensions

Over the past few years every time you pick up a magazine or hear about the latest celebrities in the news, one thing is for sure and that is they will be sporting a continuing hair trend; hair extensions!

Thankfully for us however hair extensions are one trend that aren't just confined to the celebrity world, anyone, regardless of age, background or hair type can have extensions applied. The only restriction when it comes to this trend is that you must have relatively healthy that is at least three to five inches in length. Longer hair is obviously acceptable but most stylists won't attach extensions to hair that is shorter than this.

There are many reasons as to why people decide to have extensions applied. The main and most obvious reason is to add length to your hair but they are also a great way of adding volume and thickness to your hair. Some of the other main reasons that people decide to have hair extensions applied are as follows:

o If you struggle to grow your hair out naturally or you require instant added length, volume or layers

o To cover up a bad hair cut. For example you thought that a really short style hair cut would suit you but you absolutely hate it. In cases such as this hair extensions are you perfect solution

o As a way of adding subtle highlights to your hair without using a chemical process such as bleaching which can damage your hair leaving it dry and brittle

o To gain a new look for a special occasion such as a wedding, prom or formal event

o Just for fun! They can be a great way of adding a twist to a night out or updating an outfit as they offer you an instant new look

o You miss your long hair and want to grow it out so you use hair extensions while you are waiting for your hair to grow

o You may have a medical condition or an operation that required the removal of a section of hair

o They can be a great way to increase your self esteem or to make you look longer

o To please your spouse

Most hair extensions are only semi permanent as they will last around six months and at the most a year. The method of application that you use when it comes to your extensions varies based on personal preference and the comments from your expert stylist.

Hair extensions mean you aren't limited by the length of your hair. Long hair means you can do whatever you want to your hair. You can wear it down, curl it, pin it up or add plenty of colour to it.

Remember though, hair extensions are a big investment financially so it is important that you make the right decision when it comes to choosing your attachment method, the hair type that you are going to use and the stylist and salon the you are trusting to apply your extensions. You should only have your extensions applied by a professional who has a good technique and years of practice.

Winter Hair Care - Dos and Don'ts

Many people find the winter months are tough on their hair, but you don't want to suffer with dry, brittle, dull or damaged locks during the festive season - just think of all those glamorous Christmas parties you need to attend! From using the best hair care products to getting a hat that fits, follow our simple dos and don'ts for winter hair care and you'll be sure to stay glossy and supple all the way through into spring.

DO: Protect your hair from the elements

Special care should be taken when going out in wintery conditions. When you're going outside on a cold and blustery day, a scarf or hat can protect your hair, although continuously wearing hats can have the reverse effect. Make sure your headwear is not too tight because otherwise this can lead to limp and greasy hair as a result of overworked sebaceous glands. Try not to go out on a very cold day while your hair is wet, as the hair can freeze and is at high risk of breakage.

DON'T: Shampoo too often

A lot of winter hair care is to do with keeping the hair well moisturized, as the cold weather and central heating combined can have the effect of drying out the hair. Shampooing the hair too often can exacerbate dryness just at the point when the hair and scalp are drying out more easily. Try not to shampoo more than once a day, and aim to use only high quality hair care products which actively moisturize the hair. Look for the word 'replenish' as this means the product will add moisture to the hair. You can lock in moisture and add shine by running the hair under cold water after shampooing.

DO: Use a good conditioner

Perhaps more than at other times of the year, in winter conditioning your hair can really make a difference to its feel and appearance, and professional hair care products are a must when conditioning. Use a top quality, moisturizing conditioner each time you wash. Ideally, once a week, use a richer conditioner, slather on and wrap the hair in a towel for ten minutes. This allows moisture to penetrate more deeply into the hair as a result of the humid environment created. When styling, a silicone-based serum can help to tame the frizz and increase moisture levels even further.

DON'T: Overdo it on the hot tools

During winter, the hair is exposed to extreme temperatures, and this is the major reason for its suffering. Outdoor weather combined with central heating increase static and dryness, as do tools such as curling irons and blow dryers. While you cannot escape from the first two problems, you can limit your use of hot items, as well as protecting the hair by applying a leave in conditioner before use. Washing the hair in warm water rather than hot water can also help, as can using the 'cool' setting on your hairdryer. This can mean that drying your hair takes longer, but the damage done should be reduced.

How Often Should We Cut Our Hair?

When it comes to physical appearance, hair has always been one of women's best assets. That is why hair care has been a constant obsession for women. Throughout history, many products and techniques have been used for curing hair problems they generally deal with.

No matter what hair color and texture we may have, we generally dream of changing our natural hair attributes by coloring, straightening or curling it. But even though women are so different, they all aspire to the same goal: they all want to have beautiful, shiny and, if possible, long hair locks. And for that, they are willing to do all kinds of sacrifices.

According to one of the most common urban myths, the more you cut it, the faster it will grow. In reality, regular haircuts can't influence the hair growth rate. It will grow about half an inch per month no matter what you do. It's true that it may look healthier if you remove the split ends frequently, but that doesn't mean it grows faster.

It's true that there is no hard rule dictating when it is best for you to pay a visit to your hairdresser. But, if you want to refresh your look, it is advisable to get a trim every month or at least every two months; this way you will keep your hemline neat.

As we are all different, we all need trimming at different time intervals; fine, fragile hair frequently exposed to chemical treatment splits easily and needs constant trimming, whereas natural, thick untreated locks may look great even if you don't trim them so often. Whenever you choose a specific product or hair treatment, take into consideration your own needs.

Both professional hairdressers and dermatologists agree upon a list of factors that influence hair strength and beauty: a balanced diet, sleep, genetic predisposition, general health, a daily multi vitamin intake as well as regular washing with quality products. Use appropriate shampoos and conditioners, don't stress your hair using a flat iron on a daily basis and don't comb it energetically while it's still wet. Protect your hair from extreme temperatures using quality products and embellish it with fancy accessories. Make sure you take good care of your health and ask for professional advice whenever you feel it's necessary.

What Is the Difference Between Highlights and Lowlights?

If you want a change in image, there is no easier way to do it than by changing your hairdo. With a mere haircut or top knot, your appearance and aura could change.

But what if you feel that cutting and tying are insufficient for the level of makeover you are looking for?

Try coloring. For a whole new you, there are highlights and lowlights.

Now we're sure you've heard of highlights - but what are low lights? And what's the difference between the two?

Highlights

First, let's make sure we're all on the same page on what highlights are: Highlights are a color on your hair that is a shade lighter than your natural color.

Highlights add movement and texture to one's hair.

One misconception about highlights is that it only comes in blonde hues. In reality, highlights may be red, gold-any shade that is lighter than one's natural hair color.

Adding highlights makes one's hair stand out. While highlights are more popular with people who have naturally dark hair color, highlights also look great on people with light hair color.

Lowlights

If highlights are made of hues that are two or three shades lighter than your natural hair color, lowlights are two to three shades darker than your natural hair color.

Lowlights work best for people with naturally light hair color.

Adding lowlights to one's hair gives the 'domore volume and depth. "Flat" blonde hair becomes more exciting with lowlights. They give the hair an added dimension and character, so easily lost with very light natural hues.

For some reason, lowlights are less popular than highlights. However, they yield similarly great results.

Unlike highlights, lowlights look more natural and subtle. Low lighting can be tricky to apply, though, for if the procedure is done by a non-expert, it can result in funky-looking hair colors.

To minimize errors, it's a great idea to know what kind of low light shade is suited for your natural hair color. For blondes, use shades of caramel, toffee, honey and bronze. Those with brunette hair may opt to go for brown or red colors such as cinnamon, chocolate or rust. People with red hair can try wearing golden brown and brunette colors.

A step further

A newer trend today is not just highlights or lowlights, though. The fad is to go for both. This is called the tri-color treatment.

Of course, this procedure is extra complicated and needs extra care so that one does not end up looking like a hybrid zebra.

When done properly, however, tri-color treatments result in hair that has unusual depth, dimension, and movement.

Bangs: It's All About Facial Size

Every so often, the runway and the style magazines will feature models with perfect bangs. This usually leads to a new surge of interest in the salon as women attempt to replicate the allure they see on the printed page or the runway. Too often, this fails. The reason for this is simple: face shape decides style in many ways and bangs are probably the one hairstyle most affected by it.

Every woman can look good with bangs, it's just a matter of having the right style. That style will be determined by your facial shape. Sadly, many stylists are themselves not sure of which goes with what and many will just replicate what they see in the magazine regardless of differences.

If your face is very round needs a different look than one that is long or heart shaped. Here's a general style guide based on facial shape:

Heart-shaped Face: If your face is heart shaped (also called pearl drop), will need a blunt, straight set of bangs to look best. These should be just below the eyebrows for best effect and will work to soften a sharp, pointed chin. In addition, bangs of this length can be parted or combed to the side to fit the rest of the hairstyle and outfit being used.

Long Face: A longer face usually has a high forehead and high cheek bones. To offset this length, longer bangs that come down the forehead are best. These can be blunt or somewhat rounded (longer to the sides) to create a shorter facial appearance and emphasize roundness instead of length.

Oval Face: Oval faces differ from round faces simply because they are usually a little longer. An oval face looks best with angled and short bangs, but can handle almost any bang style that isn't too extreme. Most models you see in magazines sporting bangs have a generally oval or roundish face.

Round Face: Similar to the oval face, this facial shape can accommodate almost any bang style, provided it's slightly modified to fit the face. Rounded bangs, which are concave -shorter at the center, longer on the sides - can make a round face look oval. Airy or wispy bangs can look great as well, making it appear there is more forehead, thus lengthening the face into an oval.

Square Face: Long, angled bangs look great on a square face because it slashes the square and makes it appear less blocky. It does this subtly by moving the eye diagonally rather than straight. Rounded bangs also look good on most square faces because of their tendency to soften the square and create a more circular look.

Once you've chosen the right style for your face's shape, you'll want to know what is best for your lifestyle and beauty time. If you don't have a lot of time for hair and makeup in the morning, you'll want to go with a simpler style for easier maintenance. Long bangs, including circular cuts, can be easily cared for with a simple blow dry and a boar-style brush. Shorter bangs can be easily cared for with just your fingers and a downward blow dry.

How To Choose The Right Hair Color For Your Skin Tone

Women of all ages, have a liking for altering their hair color when they are looking for a change. Women, naturally, discover style, ornamentation and looking great to become impressive. Women are fortunate to have numerous options to consider and enjoy. Whenever a woman is truly searching for a change, adding some color to her hair will certainly end up being on her list. Selecting a new color isn't for the inexperienced. When your selection does not work out, the outcomes could be devastating and beyond a little hard to correct. Here are a few essential things to consider when choosing a color.

Unless of course, you are a teenager wanting to make a crazy statement, you have to give consideration to what works with your complexion. Women with olive skin tones will not generally manage to pull off a platinum blonde color. The unnatural look leads to the look of both hair and skin color to suffer. You will also have a problem with your clothing consequently. Apparel colors that are complementing to your natural hair color and skin might appear garish, or wash out your beautiful tone. For the most beautiful result, select a hair color within the brunette tones. Hair shades which have a tendency towards the dark-reddish are stunning on women with an olive complexion.

Women having a true peaches-and-cream tone can select any kind of hair color, including black. Nevertheless, you might want to give your attire a look-over. A number of your most loved clothes may not compliment a different color of hair.

Dark-skinned women, may add subtle elegance with hair color selections in the dark-reddish, mahogany tones. These kinds of colors boost the natural beauty of your skin tone. Violet and rust are perfect clothing shades for you.

If your skin tone is pale, you might select a shade of strawberry-blonde or even one of the lighter reds to enhance your complexion. Your clothing color choices will more than likely increase should you go from a light brown to a strawberry blonde hair color. In the event you could not wear pastels or olive green before, those colors could become new and complimentary faves within your wardrobe.

If you're simply not prepared for an entire new color, adding highlights is another appealing choice. Visit the beauty salon and request to look at their hair style books of sample color and highlighting choices. Find a variety of your natural hair colors and add more of those as highlights!

When you have made your final decision, visit a beauty salon to get the best results. They're professionals and do hair services every single day.

Know Your Hair and Choose the Right Hairstyle

There is no second opinion on the fact that hairstyle has a great say on one's personality. Even if a person doesn't have an attractive face cut, a suitable hairstyle would cover it up and make it look far more charming and attractive. No wonder that is the reason why so much importance is given to hairstyles and people are ready to spend small fortunes to get a good hairstylist to groom their hair up. Like myself there are many specialists in this field who are constantly trying out new and innovative styles.
Of course, there are various hairstyles but everything will not suit everyone. So one needs to be careful in choosing the right hairstyle for themselves. Depending upon your face cut you need to first choose the hair cut that would suit you. For this you have the following options:
  • Very Short - In this type the hair would be somewhere above the ears.
  • Short - In this the hairs are a little longer and will be a little below the ear
  • Short chin length - This is somewhere between the short size and the medium size.
  • Medium - The hairs fall up around the shoulder.
  • Long - This can be anywhere between the shoulder and below.
Along with this you need to see your hair structure, which can be -
  • Thin - The density of the hair is very less and the hairs fall flat. Using Bangs for these type of hairs would help in giving the added look of thickness.
  • Thick - The amount of hair is normally dense and are slightly rough in nature brings in a slight stiffness that is favorable while doing the styles.
  • Fine - These types of hairs are soft and silky. Quite often it becomes difficult to handle them while giving a style.
  • Curly - Not to say, they are clearly visible. The hairs do not fall straight and take curves and curls.
Now let us see the various face cuts that are normally found and the hairstyles that suits them.
1. Oval - The upper portion of the face is wider and as it goes down the jaw and the chin becomes shorter giving the face an oval look. Considered as one of the most suitable shape for varied hairstyles. They can go for a short haircut and layered hairstyles would be the best match for them. If hair is curly medium to long haircuts should be preferred. Classic bob, bangs with a side parting would be quite unmatchable.
2. Round - The width of the face from top to bottom is same giving it a round shape. Specific hairstyles should be chosen to give it the oval look. Short chin length cut suits them most. At this length a bob would do wonders. Styles with side parting and layers those are wispy will give a great look. But if your hair is a bit curly you need to go for shoulder length cuts as avoiding curls around the face gives it the lengthy look.
3. Rectangular - In this type the forehead and chins are wider and the face is longer giving it the rectangular look. Long haircut with layered styles suits them most.
4. Pear - This is opposite to the oval shape. The forehead is narrowed and the chin is broad and round giving it a pear shape. Short Chin Length hair is the best for these types and
5. Diamond - A wider forehead and a narrow chin gives it the diamond shape. Medium and long haircut would be suitable. Shoulder length cuts with waves and bangs are most suitable. Blunts also suits them well.
6. Square - Short in length and wider at the forehead and chin it looks like a square. Short haircuts with layers and curls suit them well and give them the needed illusion of a round shape. Blunts may make the face look even wider. Wispy bangs on the face would give them the needed lift. A side sweeping would enhance the beauty. Layered bobs with waves is also suitable
7. Heart - They are wider at the forehead and temples and pointed at the chin and jaw line giving it a shape of the heart. Long and short haircuts with layers would suit them well. Styles that suit are pixie cut and ear length bobs.
Some of the classic and popular hairstyles for women
Pixie - These are very short haircuts. They give that chic look on the face. These are mostly suitable for thin hairs as they give a thick look on the top thereby covering the thinness.
Pony Tail - Most favored and widely used giving an informal look and can be used anywhere.
Braids - Of all the types French Braids are quite famous and are usually used in medium and long hairs. These are used

Get Rid of Flyaway Hair This Winter Season

Well, flyaways are caused when hair strands pick up positive charges. These charges cause some strands to lift away from the rest of the hair so it's no longer in place but loosely "flying" away on its own. This can make for a bad hair day and a bad mood especially when you put the effort into making your hairstyle. Basically, you have lost moisture from your hair. It's common to have this happen due to the winter's dry air. Also, sometimes the heating in your home and workplace can dry out hair as well as static from clothing.

What to do?

Well, a great tip is carrying lotion in your purse. Lightly rub some lotion on your hands and smooth it onto the hair. Use very little - just enough to add a bit of moisture to your hair. Another good tip is before you style your hair make sure you use a leave-in conditioner on your hair as well as a bit of styling serum to give your hair a bit of moisture so it can withstand any dry air or static that it may encounter once you leave the house.

As you know, winter weather can wreck havoc on your hair so the only way to repel the evil demon of dry air is to use the right products. Follow these tips and say goodbye to flyaway hair!

Also look for products that provide moisture to the hair. This is extremely important especially for those with curly hair who want to avoid the frizzies. If you're shopping for hair products, buy products with the following ingredients coconut oil, wheat germ, keratin and/or jojoba, vitamins such as biotin, panthenol, vitamin A, E and essential oils. These ingredients work well with any hair type.

There is nothing more frustrating and disappointing than having dull, dry and unhealthy hair. In many cases, color treated hair can bring about bad results especially if there is not enough maintenance and care since the chemicals used in dyeing can cause damage, making it rough, dry and ugly. That is why it is important to also know the products needed to maintain your color treated hair. Having good knowledge of the right products, you are guaranteed to have gorgeous, lovely and irresistible hair. Try and use the Moroccanoil products to maintain healthy locks.

Aside from this, your hair will also improve its overall health and leaving it soft and shiny.

To do this: get a good amount of Moroccan Moisture Repair Shampoo and massage into the scalp. Rinse out thoroughly.

The Best Hairstyle For You - The Hairstyle For Your Face Shape

The oval-shaped face is what they say, the perfect face shape, though not all people have this as some are born square-shaped, round-shaped, heart-shaped or even diamond-shaped. So what hairstyle is best for the different kinds of face shapes?

It is worthwhile for you to take your time and try to see what kind of face shape you have before going to the parlor. Since most stylists would just cut your hair the way you want it, it's best for you to know what kind of hairstyle would suit you the best.

OVAL SHAPE. People with an oval-shaped face can get away with any kind of hairstyle. Long, short, curly, straight, wavy, it would suit them. Though one must remember not to exaggerate your hairstyle like cutting your bangs super short, instead of emphasizing your oval face, you would look as if you have a round-shaped face.

DIAMOND SHAPE. The flaw of this face shape is that you have a longer face, wider cheeks and a narrow forehead and chin. Give yourself bangs to shorten the look of your face. It is also advisable for you to part your hair sideways instead of the middle so that it won't point out to the line where your face elongates.

ROUND SHAPE. The important thing when you have a round-shaped face is to never give extra volume to your hair, for it would only emphasize its roundness. Soft curls or wavy locks would be okay. Don't give yourself bangs since your round faces are equal in all portions, bangs would make your face shorter. Also give your hair a little height to lengthen your face.

SQUARE SHAPE. People with a square-shaped face have wider jaws. When giving yourself bangs, don't go for the full bangs look as it would highlight the squareness of your face, long side bangs would work. Remember that you must take away the attention from your jaw, give yourself layers to soften it.

HEART SHAPE. Heart-shaped faces needs to lengthen their faces since it's more on width. If you desire bangs, it mustn't be heavy and full, side bangs are okay. It is also advisable for you to part your hair in the middle to create an illusion of length.

Since oval is the desired face shape, remember to sport a cut that would make you look as though you have an oval-shaped face, or at least close to it.

Curly Hair Length

Finding the best hair length is not always that easy. Whether you are a male or female, some lengths will look great and some just won't work. Whenever you find the right length, you wait a little too long and end up with a desperate need for a haircut. Deciding on a good hair length can be even harder if you have curly hair. You don't want it too long or too short.

Keeping curly hair short can be difficult yet easy. With short hair, no more than 5 inches long, can be easy to take care of for several reasons. First of all, because it's so short, it's always the healthiest hair possible. With less than 5 inches you are constantly getting new growth. This helps your hair to behave better. Also, short hair tends to curl better. There is less hair there to weight it down. This can be a problem to get it just right though because you don't want it to end up looking like an afro.

If you want really short curly hair, work carefully with your hairdresser. Find a cut that looks right curly and that you can easily maintain. If you cut it really short, be aware that if you decide to grow it long again, it might look funny for a little while when it's in the in between stages.

Medium length hair, or shoulder length, almost always works very well with curly hair. It's long enough to not curl into a ball, depending on how curly your hair is, but it's not too short that the weight of your hair will pull out the curls. I've always liked to keep my hair at this length and find it looks its best. You could experiment with layers if you want, but it might work best for you to keep one length.

Long hair with curls can look beautiful but be tricky. One problem with long hair is that the longer it gets, the older it is. If you have damaged hair that you blow dry, straighten, and color often, your hair will look damaged. Curly hair needs a lot of moisture and to be left alone from heat and color as much as possible. If you want to grow your hair long, be sure to trim it every so often, preferably every month if you are at the length you like, to remove damaged hair.

Also, with long curls, the weight of your hair can weight it down, pulling out the curls. Or, if your hair is really frizzy and curly, you could have a huge poof for hair. If you want more tamed curls and your hair works this way, then by all means, grow it long. If you get a poof, your hair probably doesn't get the right moisture and needs some extra care. Use a good conditioner and add an antifrizz serum.

How To Tame Frizzy Hair

Frizzy hair can be a problem for women, especially those with curly hair who live in warm or humid climates. Before you even leave your home, your beautiful hair style can start to fall apart and make you look disheveled. You can wear your hair in a ponytail, but the situation can bring down your confidence and spoil your style.

Besides humidity, there are many causes for frizzy hair, the main one being that your hair lacks moisture. It's very important to use a cream conditioner after shampooing so that your hair can retain moisture. Keep in mind that excessive use of shampoo is bad for your hair because it causes your hair to lose its natural oils. For best results, wash your hair twice weekly.

Applying excessive heat with a flat iron or blow dryer everyday can add to the problem. The frequent use of hair dryers can not only make your hair look brittle, but can cause split ends as well. Styling your hair twice a week with the help of a heat protecting product is sufficient to reduce the frizz, keep you looking your best and lock in moisture.

Another cause of frizz is using chemicals or a lot of products to color, treat or manage your hair. While using these products may make you feel or look better temporarily, they tend to damage in the long run. Therefore, you should try to cut back on the use of styling products and talk to your colorist about how often he or she recommends doing color treatments so that you damage your hair as little as possible. A monthly deep conditioning can also help to reduce frizz for color treated hair and a small amount of gel can help control damaged hair.

Another method of getting rid of frizzy hair is to stop using a hairbrush. Using a wide-tooth comb is a better option because it does not break the strands, cause split ends or cause frizz. One of the best ways to detangle your locks is to run your fingers through them gently while in the shower and then pat dry with a towel as opposed to rubbing dry.

No matter where we live or how well we take care of ourselves, we all have to deal with frizz from time to time, but that doesn't mean that we should let it take over our day. This is a problem that can be remedied with a bit of patience and care. We hope that our suggestions will help you out. Good luck.

How To Choose A Hair Color To Go With Your Complexion

I heard on the news today that the temperature was going to hit the upper 90s again. If you are wearing hair color, and it does not matter what color you are wearing, I am sure you want your color to always look exciting. Many of you are spending days in the sun, at the beach and in the pool, which means chlorine and salt water, which can be very difficult on color treated hair. Did you know that the lighter your hair is from its natural color the more difficult it is to keep it healthy in these elements?

If your hair is blond and you want to keep it from turning green from the chlorine you might want to presoak it first and apply some conditioner in it before you get in the pool so that your hair does not absorb the chlorine. Redken has Color Extend Sun Solar Screen SPF12 that gives excellent protection, and Banana Boat has a very inexpensive one, Sport Body and Scalp Sunscreen at about $5.00 that works well. When it comes to shampooing, you also want to use sulfate free shampoos as well. Those that contain sulfates will fade your color and your color investment goes right down the drain. Because you need to shampoo often if you swim, go to the beach or work out in the gym, there is a need to shampoo more often. However, shampooing every other day or even every two days is sufficient and on those other days just use a conditioner and massage through your hair and scalp and rinse. Your hair will be clean; it will smell great and will look as if you shampooed it and won't feel weighted down.

If your hair is brunette, adding some subtle highlights would look great and give great natural highlighted look. I call it the sun kissed look. Just have it highlighted just around the face and just where the sun touches your head down to the tips with the look of perfect dark to light graduation. This can be achieved with balyage or with a large tooth comb and even smooshing it a little at the ends to achieve the desired look of warm caramels and honey gold with more blonde at the ends. Children have a natural sun kissed look after playing in the sun. If you see a child with the perfect highlights you admire, take a photo and take them to your hairstylist and see if he or she can duplicate them for you.

No matter what color or highlights you are wearing, they should enhance your face and never take away from your face. If you have warm undertones you are good to go with warm tones such as reds, coppers, gold tones and auburns. If you have cool undertones you are good to go with colors in the cooler tones or on the ashy side. Have you ever seen someone with warm undertones wearing ash blond hair? Did they look a little green to you? What about someone with a cooler complexion wearing straight up blond hair? Did they appear a tad bit washed out? You get the picture. Stay in your lane.

I love reading Rosemary Rodgers romantic novels. The heroine always has red hair and green eyes. This combination is always a good fit, don't you think? That is because on the color wheel, green and red are opposite which means they are complimentary colors.

The point I am getting at is color should complement your eyes and skin color. I have created a chart and you can select where you are with your eye color, skin color and hair color. From there, you can pick the correct color family that is perfect for you. The right hair color will change your life.

If your eye color is dark brown or black, gray-blue or dark blue, hazel with, gray or blue flecks, you fall in the cool category. If your eye color is dark warm brown, golden brown, green, green blue or turquoise, hazel with gold or brown flecks, you fall in the warm category. Now for skin color, if you have very dark brown to medium brown with olive undertones, true olive (some blacks, Asians and Latinos), medium with no color in cheeks, medium with faint pink cheeks, medium with golden undertones, pale with no color in cheeks, brown or bronze when tan, you fall in the cool category. If you are brown with pink undertones, golden undertones, pale with peach or gold undertones, freckled, ruddy or golden brown when tan, you fall into the warm category. For the natural hair color, if your hair color is blue black, deep coffee brown, medium ash brown, medium golden brown, dishwater blond or white to silver, you fall in the cool category. However, if your hair has red undertones, red, strawberry blonde, then you fall into the warm category.

If you checked mostly cools, then you are naturally cool, likewise, if you are mostly warm, you are naturally warm. If you are naturally cool you want to stay away from yellow, gold, bronze and red because they will make you look washed out. You would look great in shiny black dark ash brown, cool browns or cool blonds in platinum. Of course it also depends on your skin tone. You can even wear those awesome bright red lipsticks that other people would look less flattering wearing.

Naturally warm people should avoid jet black hair for sure, violet and blue hair because it will not be the best look for you. You will find that your best look, depending on your skin tone will be deep chocolates, golden browns, auburns, warm gold, red highlights, and golden blonds to make your look pop. I love adding highlights in warm tones to compliment.

Chic Hairstyles For Short Hair

Short hair is by far the easiest to maintain but there are fewer styles to choose from when compared to long hairstyles. But all is not lost as how you have it cut, blown dry, curled, or straightened, can make a world of difference to the way you look. If you are fortunate enough to have a patient hairdresser who is also game to trying out something new each time, you can be sure that heads will turn every time you give yourself a hair makeover.

Using a straightener or a curling iron innovatively can result in a hairstyle that will be the envy of even celebrities. Like for example the really chic straight hair that breaks into large lovely curls just below eye level that frame your face. Or you could part your hair to one side and layer the top portion of your hair that should be given a professional 'messy' cut to suggest a carefree demeanour that also means business.

Then there is the fringe with waves to die for resting just over the eyebrows, or a side fringe running into a mass of short wavy curls just about resting on the shoulders. A short layered cut at chin level with the ends blown dry to turn outwards would give you a very chic and professional look. If you want to go in for a breezy look, try the really short haircut with thick tight curls all over the head.

You could go for a shoulder length hair cut with neat layers, and emphasize the layers by alternating between brushing inwards and outwards while blow drying. Or keep it really short with a centre parting, and very straight before dissolving into a riot of soft curls and spiral waves. This hairstyle looks great with the right highlights. For blonde hair, use burgundy highlights, and on light brown hair, blonde highlights.

The highlights look great on short hair cut in spikes too. This will definitely make you look very adventurous and doesn't require much maintenance. You could always take the really brave step of going for a buzz cut and still carry it off well with the right clothes and accessories. There is really nothing you cannot do with short hair if you set your mind to it.

The best hairstyles do not come from blindly copying from a celebrity but rather something that will also reflect the shape of your face, your skin tone and colour, your personality, your attitude to life, the clothes you wear, and even the type of work you do. If your job is in the corporate sector, you may not be able to play around with your hair as much as you could if you were in the entertainment sector.

But if you do a bit of research and discuss your options with your hairdresser, you will soon find out what will suit you the best. In any case, don't hesitate to try out something new as you just might find a new gorgeous hairstyle. Let your imagination fly!

Wedding Hairstyles For 2011

Every girl deserves to be at her best during that very important day in her life: her wedding day. Everything needs to be perfect; from her whole wedding ensemble down to the tiniest detail in her wedding reception. So to help all the bride-to-be's out there, here are some tips on choosing the perfect hairstyle amidst all options out there. There are a lot of hairstyles to choose from and it should be planned extensively.

Wedding styles tip # 1: Daytime or evening wedding?

There are hairstyles that go specifically for daytime and evening activities. A day ceremony is usually considered as an informal affair so brides can wear their hair down and showcase some loose curls. Curls are perfect for a romantic look and are good for short hair with all-over curls, or a long mane with cascading curls. However, rules of wedding hairstyles change when it comes to a night time event. Thus, it is best to consult with a professional about this. Updos are always great for formal evening affairs. Updos are perfect for all weddings especially if the bride wants to showcase her shoulders and neck. They are also best known for enhancing the bride's features as since it sweeps hair off the face. Example of classic updos that are best for day and night include the French twist, chignon, and other half-up hairstyles.

Wedding styles tip # 2: Wedding gown first, hairstyle second.

Wedding hairstyles should complement the gown. Thus, professional stylists suggest that the perfect time to plan the bride's look is after the gown has been selected. Certain shapes and fit of gowns go with specific hairstyles. For instance, fitted gowns call for elegant and smooth hairstyles whereas flowing long gowns are better suited for softer ones. Fabrics are also helpful in determining the right hairstyle. Light fabrics will complement wispy curls and textured hair whereas heavy fabrics demand structured barrel curls or smooth hair. Notice how a chiffon wedding dress looks very beautiful when the bride wears a loose pouf in the back?

Wedding styles tip # 3: Bridal fairs, bridal flairs!

Aside from a trusted hair salon, there are a lot of other rich resources that brides can utilize to help her in her decision making process. Bridal magazines are rich sources of information. Soon to be wives can also go to bridal fairs and other wedding expos. Not only can they see various wedding hairstyles, they can also get to talk to specialists regarding key wedding elements such as gowns, flowers, entourage, reception, etc. But of course, nothing beats the advice that a personal hairstylist can give when it comes to one's over-all look.

Final note for all the brides: bring the wedding gown when it is time to visit your stylist. If it is not possible, bring a picture and a sample fabric. Also, do not forget to schedule several appointments so it will be possible to try several looks for D-day. Finally, wear something that will resemble the neckline of the bridal gown.
